Kennedy Care Center

Notable Concerns

Kennedy Care Center is a skilled nursing facility in Los Angeles, California, that provides both short-term and long-term care. The facility claims to value patients’ safety and wellness, but publicly available data raise questions about whether its quality of care aligns with that mission. Here are some facts to be aware of before you place a loved one in this facility:

  • Kennedy Care Center has a 44.8% nurse turnover rate, meaning nearly half of its nursing staff has left over a 12-month period.
  • Medicare has given the facility a one-star rating overall and for health inspections.
  • Multiple one-star Yelp reviews describe ongoing issues with hygiene, communication, and living conditions.
  • Inspections have revealed deficiencies in how the facility honors residents’ rights, provides appropriate treatment, and controls infections.
  • Kennedy Care Center paid $38,272 for a health standards violation in March 2025.

Overall Ratings & Reviews for Kennedy Care Center Nursing Home

Kennedy Care Center reports an average of 4.03 nurse staffing hours per resident per day, which is well below California’s state average of 4.5 hours. This metric suggests that nurses at the facility may have limited time to provide attentive, hands-on care to residents.

The facility also has a 44.8% nurse turnover rate, which represents the percentage of nursing staff who left employment at the facility over a 12-month period. Compared with the state average of 38.1%, this may indicate ongoing problems with care continuity.

Kennedy Care Center has earned only a one-star overall rating from the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Categorized Medicare ratings include one star for health inspections, two stars for staffing, and four stars for quality measures.

The facility also has a 3.5-star average rating on Yelp, based on reviews from patients and their family members. Negative feedback alleges poor communication with families, inadequate hygiene, unsanitary conditions, ignored complaints, and cramped shared rooms.

Kennedy Care Center Violations and Deficiencies

Inspection reports and citation records reveal multiple areas where Kennedy Care Center failed to meet federal care and safety standards.

Inspection Deficiencies

Over the last 36 months, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has documented 103 total deficiencies during inspections of Kennedy Care Center. The most recent inspection, performed on September 12, 2025, highlights several concerning deficiencies, including:

  • Resident Rights Deficiency: Failure to honor the resident’s right to a dignified existence, self-determination, communication, and to exercise their rights
  • Quality of Life and Care Deficiency: Failure to provide appropriate treatment and care according to orders and residents’ preferences and goals
  • Infection Control Deficiency: Failure to provide and implement an infection prevention and control program

Another inspection on March 20, 2025, identified a deficiency that resulted in actual harm related to a resident’s wound care. Surveyors documented that a resident with a foot wound showed signs of infection, but staff could not explain how to perform the dressing changes or describe the wound’s status before the resident’s transfer to a hospital.

Recent Fines and Citations

Federal officials fined Kennedy Care Center $38,272 in March 2025. Nursing homes only receive such penalties for serious health citations or failure to address a violation.

On that same date, the facility also received a Medicare payment denial, meaning Medicare temporarily stopped paying the facility for certain services, likely due to ongoing concerns about care quality.

Overall, regulators have issued 32 health citations to Kennedy Care Center in recent years, a significantly higher number than the U.S. average of 9.6 and the California average of 15.7. Each citation reflects an instance where inspectors found that the facility didn’t meet specific federal standards.

How Do You Prove Nursing Home Abuse or Neglect?

You do not need to have proof of mistreatment to take action. If you suspect your loved one has been abused or neglected, you should speak with a nursing home abuse lawyer. An experienced lawyer will investigate to determine if your loved one has experienced abuse or neglect. If so, your lawyer will gather evidence and build a strong claim.

Meanwhile, if you notice any changes in your loved one’s appearance or behavior, document them. Common signs of neglect or abuse include unexplained injuries, repeated bedsores, sudden weight loss, repeated falls or infections, and poor hygiene. Fear around certain staff members, social withdrawal, or unusual agitation can also signal that something is wrong.

Write down your observations as you notice them. Include dates, times, and the names of any staff members involved. Take photographs of any visible injuries or unsafe conditions, and keep copies of medical records and written communication with the facility.

Having our Los Angeles nursing home abuse lawyers on your side can make all the difference in proving mistreatment. We can fill in the gaps by launching an independent investigation and gathering additional evidence, including witness statements, inspection reports, incident reports, staffing records, surveillance footage, and care plans.
