What an Ombudsman Does for Nursing Home Abuse Victims & Families
Video Transcript
Ombudsman are advocates for families and residents of long-term care facilities. Essentially, if you or your family member is having an issue with the facility, whatever it might be, it might be a billing issue, a food issue, a care issue. If you take it to someone at the facility and it’s not getting the attention you think it needs, you can call the ombudsman’s office and they can act as a mediator or advocate on your behalf.
If they can’t resolve the issue, they also have the ability to elevate the issue to the appropriate regulatory agencies like the Department of Public Health or Department of Social Services. So, they’re a really good resource for residents and family members at long-term care facilities.
