So, isolation can definitely have a negative effect on residents in nursing homes. We saw that a lot during the peak of the COVID era. A lot of times activities were cancelled, resident council meetings were cancelled, family visits were cancelled, and that affected both the residents and their family members. We had a case a few years ago with a woman who adored her husband, loved him to no end. She had placed him in a nursing home because he had severe dementia and a bunch of mobility issues and she couldn’t care for him at home.
Because of the fact that COVID was ongoing, she just wasn’t able to see him and he developed injuries at the facility and she wasn’t able to find out about them. She wasn’t informed about everything and he kept getting worse and worse and she was kept out. So, by the end, it eventually led to him passing away, actually horrifically, as she was in the lobby about to go see him for the last time.
