Victims of Elder Abuse

Elder abuse awareness entails recognizing any action or inaction by individuals responsible for the well-being of seniors, dependents, or disabled adults, resulting in the deprivation of essential goods or services necessary to prevent physical harm or mental suffering.

The most common victims of abuse and neglect usually fall into one of the below categories

Elderly – Any person 65 years of age or older who is dependent on others for any activities of daily living.

Developmentally Disabled – Persons with a developmental disability making them dependent on others for their activities of daily living. This includes persons whose physical or mental abilities have diminished because of age or injury.

Dependent Adult – Persons between the ages of 18 and 64 years who have physical or mental limitations that restrict their ability to carry out normal activities of daily living or to protect their rights.

Vulnerable Person – Persons having a physical or mental impairment that sustaintially limits one or more of the major life activities of the person and has a medical or psychological record of the impairment or is otherwise regarded as having the impairment.
