Perpetrators Of Elder Abuse
Care Custodians – an administrator or an employee of any public or private entity having responsibility for care or services to elder, dependent, or disabled adults, or any persons providing care or services thereto, including support and maintenance staff.
Nursing Homes & Rehabilitation Facilities – those facilities that are licensed as skilled nursing facilities through the Department of Public Health that take in elderly, dependent, and disabled adults for the purpose of providing custodial care services while the resident is undergoing rehabilitation from an acute injury.
Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly – commonly referred to as assisted living facilities, these facilities are licensed by the Department of Social Services to provide non-medical, custodial assistance to elderly, dependent, and disabled adults. This assistance primarily consists of room, board, medication management, and limited assistance with activities of daily living.
Adult Day Care Centers – These facilities are designed to provide care and companionship for elder, dependent, and disabled adults who need assistance or supervision during the day. These facilities allow family or friends providing care to the individual adult to go to work, handle personal business or just relax while the individual adult is supervised by the facility.
Hospitals – facilities licensed by the Department of Public Health to provide acute care services. Often times, abuse and neglect in these facilities occur when elderly, dependent, or disabled persons have prolonged stays in acute care facilities that are ill-equipped to handle the custodial care needs of their patients for extended periods of time.
Caregivers – individuals hired by the elderly, dependent, or disabled adult (or by their family members) to assist the adult individual with activities of daily living in their home such as grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning, and other activities of daily living.
Solicitors – persons who seek out elder, dependent, or disabled adults for the purpose of taking advantage of the individual adult by selling them goods or services not needed or wanted but rather for the purpose of wrongfully taking from the individual adult their personal or real property.
Family Members – sons, daughters, nieces, nephews, and other persons related to the individual adult.
